Opt-Out/Waiver

If you do not want the Student Health Insurance Plan, you must decline or opt-out of coverage by submitting a waiver. You may only opt-out of coverage during the following Waiver Periods:

PA’s, Medical Doctorates and Pharm D Scholars

Fall  – 06/24/2024 - 08/15/2024

Spring/Summer - 12/18/2024 - 02/15/2025 

GA and Medical Health Professionals

Fall - 08/12/2024 - 10/03/2024

Spring/Summer – 01/13/2025 - 03/06/2025

Summer – 05/27/2025 - 07/17/2025

 

WAIVER PROCESS

All Medical School and Medical Health Professional are automatically enrolled and charged for the UNM Student Health Plan unless a waiver is submitted and approved.  All Graduate Assistants (Domestic and International) are automatically enrolled and UNM pays the premiums for this coverage unless a waiver is submitted and approved.  Students holding comparable coverage may be eligible to waive enrollment in the UNM Student Health Plan.

To be eligible for a waiver of enrollment in the UNM Student Health Plan, the University requires that students provide evidence of other comparable health coverage.  Please be advised that the waiver request will be reviewed and verified active with the insurance carrier.  Notification of acceptance or rejection of this request will be sent to your school email within seven business days.

If you want to waive enrollment from the UNM Student Health Plan, please acquire an electronic copy of the front and back of your insurance ID card and then select the appropriate link below to submit your waiver request. Once you login, select “No, I do not want the insurance.” Section.
